In December, we wrote about two Minnesota school bus crashes that occurred just a week apart. While snow and icy roads are often a factor in many types of Minnesota car accidents, these crashes both appear to have involved driver negligence.

Thankfully, injuries to students were few and minor. But the same cannot be said for another school bus accident that recently occurred in Texas.

The crash scenario appears to be quite similar to one that we wrote about in December, but this accident took place approximately 60 miles northeast of Austin, Texas.

Yesterday morning, the school bus was carrying about 38 students on its morning route. According to a representative from the state Department of Transportation, the bus was flipped onto its side after being clipped by a tractor-trailer that had apparently ran a stop sign.

The crash knocked the bus driver unconscious. The driver was one of 32 people taken to a hospital in central Texas. Of those injured, 29 were children, including a 9-year-old boy ejected from the bus during the crash. He was reportedly thrown through the escape hatch on the roof.

A hospital spokeswoman said that 26 of the children were discharged after being treated, but the remaining three children needed to be admitted. One child and the bus driver are both in critical condition.

When children are injured in devastating vehicle accidents, there are often many questions and a lot of anger from parents and community members. And if the crash was caused by a truck driver's negligence, criminal charges and personal injury lawsuits may be an appropriate and expected response.
